The J1s this year are a pretty interesting, fascinating and not to forget AWESOME cohort.
Even though they weren't as 'high' as the OGLs, its not much of a worry. The two days was just a pre-course to the REAL THING starting from Monday - Friday.
E-OIIIIIIIIIIIII
The OGLs are basically just plain madness, screaming, shouting, boo yah-ing to every single thing there is in our bid to enthuse the J1s.
While some embraced it, others just chose to bad mouth about every single thing there is. Including a particular 'Walkway Girl', who has chose to just delete everything regarding about her insults to the school, other students and the OGLs.
What a coward. Please be like me, who chose to speak up about this kind of 'happenings' to the RELEVANT AUTHORITIES. Rather than hiding in the comfort of your home. *Rolls eyes*
But atleast the 80 or so OGLs know ur identity. So much for revealing ur OGL's name, u just gave him(who happened to be my friend) the shock of his life as he tot everything was okay and fine.
Anyway, here are my little takeaways:
Day 1 -> At least half the day was spend dealing with administration stuff. Need to get their handphone and home telephone numbers, so that the school can update accordingly. Like it help, we did it last year, and they still have the number i used when i was still in Seng Kang. That was like wat, 5 YEARS AGO!? So i didn't get to know my OG-lings very well. But that all changed when i sms them that evening to take their emails(which i forgot), then for some, we had small talks. One particular one, i spelled her name wrongly. But NOT MY FAULT, it was written like that in the notebook Mitch gave them larh! But nevermind, got to know some of them better. As for the games and stuff, it was definately an improvement from last year. Where everything was just cock-up. For the past two days, i have noticed that the games conducted was very smooth and efficient, drawing links to our school in order to get the J1s to know YJ better. So much for the 'exceptional' leaders from the 23rd Student Council, which i feel was an all out crap. I definately find this year's Student Council and OGL to be better than them. But that of course stems from the reason that we are know what it feels like to be dragged, and subsequently, getting home late. So yeah, the OGLs are basically running around in an attempt to keep pushing time up. As time pass, the J1s started warming up to each other(and towards the OGLs), and the inevitable 'cliques' start forming. Notably, the Chung Cheng Yishunians. Who prefer to stay in each others comfort. But nevermind about that, after Fatimah's whining, they(not only CCHYians) pretty much venture out and getting to know others as well. So much so that the boys themselves form a clique, the girls a clique(which the OGLs have to juggle on both sides by engaging in conversations and little talks with them). Since the first day is all about choosing subject combis, the J1s in my OG are enquiring about this and that. And suprisingly, there are some who are taking up 4H2s! NICE! Not only that, there are also some who are strong in Chemistry, Maths and Arts. I see a few potentials for H3s in this OG, if they keep up their passion for the Sciences. As for the Arts, there are a few who are into Lit, and Geog. So yeah, who knows? The next H3 from Arts might be from OG25? ^^
Day 2 -> College Race! The previous days' race was a disaster, only got to visit one Station(all others are occupied, and so we kept going around to round the dice to score a chance with the other station). On this day, we definately got to visit more. And after the station 'Run Baby Run', the ENTIRE OG got together suprisingly fast. It may be due to the fact that we are WINNING, so it might have triggered some sense of belonging and victory. And they were cheering on for both teams that is from our OG. All i can say was that, that the games has finally worked its magic. After that, we sort off won every game when competing with other OGs :D. Although we didn't got the Best OG award at the end of the day. It was enough by making the OG closer together, and that all we asked for. Anyway, the J1s got to learn the YJC Mass Dance. And our OG kinda fared badly(atleast for the boys), who are ALL GOING GAGA OVER "ROOSTER"! The girls did pretty fine, we can see that they are all dancing. For the boys.... Well, lets just say that they FAILED in it. Some stumbled, some confused, some dumbfounded. Making their partners wildly confused at the same time. LOL, i think this was the most hilarious part of the day. As for the dismissal time, the OGLs felt kinda sad and everything, caused the OGs' disbanding, and everyone's proceeding to their CTG(where they be grouped according to subject combi). Wonders how are we going to bond the next batch of J1s, who are from different OGs. Only with luck can we see our OG-lings back again, then again, which class(sci/arts) is our teacher assigned to? Damn i hate this feeling. But its all for the good of them, It beats getting to be an awesome OG. Only to start distancing when all of them are assigned to their subject combis class. Like it did for my OG, all of us were pretty close(the boys). Now, are we do is to greet each other whenever we walk past, and sometimes, there's no acknowledgement at all. It like everyone has forgotten about each other. So, as far as it goes, this is what the J1s of 2009 feedback to the school. And we think that this is the best, better bond a prospective class together during the initial stages, than to allow them to distance themselves from each others knowing.
So this very much concludes my feeling for this past two days. :D
Will look forward to the next 5 days of Orientation. This is when the OGLs really have to give it their best, to bond the CTG together. It is up to us to determine the next batch of students this school is getting, and subsequently, affecting the next batch of students to come in on Jan 2011.
Im starting to feel the how much an OGL affects the school. Last year was not as happening as this year ^^ we the OGLs hope this raises the bar up, and affect the next Orientation. Till than, the OGLs are BOOMZING everyone on Monday, with our hilarious an awesome performances on the different houses.
SELETAR JAI HO!
BEST CTG/BEST HOUSE/BEST OGL FTW!!!!!!!
